AudioCube
CNA integrates AudioCube into Euphonix console
In addition to being a world class archive, CNA - the National Archive of Luxembourg – also functions as a full-service recording studio. The recently completed recording studio is equipped with Cube-Tec´s AudioCube, which is used for multi-track recording, mastering and audio restoration.
Through a MADI interface, the AudioCube is fully integrated into CNA’s Euphonix 5 BP console.
By looping Cube-Tec VPIs (Restoration or Mastering Tools) into the signal path, it is possible to use console surface controls to change VPI parameters on the fly, singnificantly enhancing workflow efficiency and throughput. An identical AudioCube / Euphonix system will be on display in the Euphonix booth (Hall 8 stand C63) at this year’s IBC show.

CD-Inspector
WDR migrates 10,000 audio CDs a month into their new audio archive
As an interim preservation step over a 10-year period, the West German public
service broadcaster WDR transferred its entire analog sound collection to CD. This
collection, which contains approximately 270,000 CDs, will now become the core
component of the WDR digital audio archive for long-term preservation.
|
»The fact that the initial transfer from analog to CD had already been done, made it
possible for us to take advantage of the latest technology – namely CD-Inspector
from Cube-Tec – to accelerate the transfer process. Splitting the project into two
steps and starting early with the labour intensive, manual portion enabled the
utilization of the automated, quality controlled system from Cube-Tec to fill up the
new mass-storage in high speed. The CD-Inspector system has proven to be both
reliable and efficient.«

Media-Inspector
National Museum Wales chose Media-Inspector
St Fagans: National History Museum is one of Europe's foremost open-air museums and Wales's most popular heritage attraction. The museum explores all aspects of how people in Wales have lived - from Celtic times to the present day. St Fagans’ sound archive supports the Welsh language as a vital part of the historic heritage of Wales. The museum has built up an archive of recorded oral testimony since the late 1950s. During the 1990s the National History Museum transferred most of their analog audio library to R-DAT and CD audio.
Now St Fagans wishes to migrate this material together with associated metadata to digital mass-storage. In a tender process Cube-Tec was chosen to deliver the required equipment, train the in-house staff and provide support and maintenance. The quality-controlled transfer will be performed with DAT-Inspector and CD-Inspector technology.

DOBBIN
Direct-to-Disc Publishing with DOBBIN and RIMAGE Producer
Cube-Tec has extended DOBBIN's power and versatility through the addition of a new module that provides "on-the-fly optical media production".
|
The new Disc-Writer module facilitates the recording of DOBBIN generated media files directly to optical storage, for the production of single or multiple copies on Blu-ray disc, DVD or CD Audio. This is an extremely efficient and cost effective way to produce optical media back-ups, or automate the process of producing individual user copies. Additionally, a color printer is integrated for user definable label printing. Disc-Writer can easily be combined with other DOBBIN features such as automatic restoration, mastering, encoding and conditional workflow branching. Disc-Writer jobs are easy to handle via the JobDesigner "visio-like GUI" and can also be programmed to start automatically if new
jobs arrive. Disc-Writer is able to store the output of a DOBBIN-Job on different Media, in different file formats (Blu-ray, DVD, CD Audio and CDROM) and as needed in multiple copies. In back-up mode, if the amount of data exceeds the capacity of a single optical medium, the output is intelligently divided
for multiple discs.

AudioCube
Jethro Tull Re-mastered and Surround UpMixed with AudioCube Technology
Without a doubt, Jethro Tull is one of the most popular and influential
bands to emerge from Britain during the "music rich" 1970's.
The band's 40th anniversary was celebrated with a lengthy tour, which
resulted in a new DVD - "Jethro Tull - Jack in the Green - Live in Germany"
(Aviator Entertainment). In addition to live concert recordings, the DVD
contains previously un-released material, which includes recordings from
concerts and TV appearances between 1970 and 1993 - a real bonanza for Jethro
Tull fans.
DVD mastering was handled by sound engineer Peter Kaminski at Hamburg's
‘Mastering & Surround Factory’. As usual, Peter's DAW of choice for this
important project was the AudioCube from Bremens pro-audio specialist
Cube-Tec International.

 |
|
»Mastering these extremely different sounding tracks has been a challenge,
due to the 23 year time-span during which the material was recorded; a lot
of different recording situations came into play. The biggest challenge
indeed was to create a contemporary 5.1 surround format out of the
monophonic TV source sound. This task was accomplished by using the highly
optimized AudioCube ‘UpMix to Surround’ technology. The ‘UpMix to Surround’
module totally revealed its potential - which was confirmed by rave reviews
of the astonishing picture and sound quality from the specialized press.«

The AudioCube 'UpMix to Surround' module - exclusive for AudioCube users -
was optimized and fine-tuned over the course of a multi-year cooperation
between Cube-Tec International and Mastering & Surround Factory.
